World Data Center of Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development (WDC-Ukraine) was created as a branch of the World Data Center of Solar and Terrestrial Physics of the Geophysical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the structure of the Institute for Applied System Analysis and the National Technical University of Ukraine «Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» in  2006 on the basis of the Agreement on Collaboration and Scientific Exchange between Geophysical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute for Applied System Analysis of the NTUU «KPI» and is responsible for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development.

In  2008 due to active support of Russian and Ukrainian Academies of Sciences, the Center has passed all required certification processes, after that it was integrated into the Russian-Ukrainian WDC segment as a World Data Center of Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development.

WDC-Ukraine is a part of World Data Center System of the International Council of Science (ICSU), and acts according to the «WDC System Guide».

Among the basic tasks of WDC-Ukraine there is collecting, handling and storing science data and giving access to use it both in science research and study process. That includes contemporary tutoring technologies and resources of e-libraries and archives; remote access to own information resources of the wide circle of scientists from the universities and scientific institutions of Ukraine.

The main scientific directions of WDC-Ukraine:

  • Sustainable Development
  • Geoinformatics
    — Terrestrial Physics
    — Solar Physics
    — Oceanography
