Research:

Conducts fundamental and applied research in the sphere of

system analysis as an applied scientific

methodology designed to study complex, interdisciplinary problems of different nature. Methods for the system assignments formulation and their reduction to the soluble form in the actual conditions, which is characterized by a set of conflicting objectives, different kinds of uncertainties and risks.
Computational algorithms and procedures for solving practical problems for a number of cross-disciplinary applications relating to scientific, technical and socio-economic spheres of human activities are being developed. In particular, methodology and applied social informational technologies based on knowledge are being created.

Research:

The Department conducts basic and applied research in

mathematical computer-aided design software, such as:

automatic methods of mathematical models of objects as algebraic differential equations or equations of state for describing their structure and components; implicit numerical integration methods, which automatically changes the order from 1 to 6, during the calculations obtained «hard» equation of mathematical models, ensuring convergence of the decision and given the error, methods of solving ill-conditioned problems of linear dimension, new methods of parametric optimization of variable order, which are approximated by a matrix known Jacobi and Hesse, the method of «centering» the decision in multispace that enhances the viability of objects when changing their parameters, methods for joint modeling of several physical effects in an object (such as electrical and heat state) solutions of paralleling methods of mathematical model for distributed computer systems or clusters, etc.

On the basis of original methods, mentioned above, there exists the development and introduction of competitive computer systems design for different purposes, such as the development of promising microelectronic-mechanical systems (MEMS).

Research:

Chair of SD prepares highly-qualified specialists in

"Information Technologies" and "System Design".


Chair of SD performs research on new directions in informatics related to the creation of computer-aided systems and construction of intelligent environments, and performs specialists’ training in these areas. The Chair proposed, tested and implemented heterogeneous nonlinear modeling of technical objects, methodology and principles of software and hardware systems, organization of collective design in the intellectual Grid environment, adaptation of computer-aided design to the real problems of different classes and more.

The Chair, for the years of its existence starting with 1964 has prepared and published a comprehensive library of theory and practice publications for computer engineering and grid technology, which contains 31 monographs, tutorials and textbooks, 18 brochures and more than 950 scientific papers. During this time the department has prepared nine Dr. Sc. and 64 Ph.Ds.

High Performance Computing Center (HPCC) has been created to build the educational and science informationn infrastructure, to implement

the Decree of President of Ukraine on October 20, 2005 № 1497.2005 “About priorities for the introduction of advanced information technologies, perform tasks of national programme named “Information and communication Technologies in Education and Science, 2006-2010” and in response to corresponding Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 301-r of May 31, 2006.

With the beginning of the second phase of HPCC development emphasis has been shifted from increasing computing power to improving the use of its resources in education and scientific research at University within its Unified information environment, creating appropriate conditions for cooperation with scientific and educational organizations, institutions and enterprises in the shared use of computational resources and information technologies.
To achieve this HPCC was included to the Design Office of Information Systems (DOIS) managed by prof. A. Y. Savitsky, where other university computing resources have been consolidated.
Along with the main direction of the cluster usage for the implementation of international and joint with NAS of Ukraine Grid-projects and HPC projects, scientific management of which is provided by Proffesor A. Petrenkoо additionally there were introduced two more directions:

  • direction of implementation and deployment of application software for the Centre to solve complex scientific and engineering problems, Proffesor A. M. Novikov;
  • direction of the system software, technical and information support of the Center, Proffesor G. M. Lutsky.

World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development (WDC-Ukraine)

Among the basic tasks of the WDC-Ukraine there is collection, handling and storage of scientisic data and giving access for users both in scientific research and study process.
